1) If someone passes out (becomes unconscious) when drinking, the best thing you can do is:
a- Take photos of them and put them on Myspace
b- Stay with them and make sure they get help
c- Let them sleep it off
It is important to call for help, this may be a responsible adult or, 000 emergency. Remember that ambulance drivers are NOT police and will not call the Police unless they, or someone else is in danger OR somebody dies. Also, by staying with your friend, you can ensure that they are breathing and safe until help arrives.
2) 1 in 20 young Australians’ have experienced unwanted sex. The main reason for this is:
a- They were drunk and/or high
b- They were forced to do it
c- They thought it would make them more ‘cool’
No one should ever have sex unless they give consent . Try to remember (and encourage your friends to) that decisions about sex are best made when you're sober. You can live to regret decisions made when you are under the influence.
3) Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) are:
a- Easy to see on you and your partner
b- Are common amongst young people and sometimes have no symptoms
c- Always able to be cured
STI’s don’t always show, and if you’re sexually active the only real way of knowing if you have one is by getting a sexual health test at your local doctor or sexual health clinic. You can't always see an STI, and SOME infections can be treated but not cured.
4) Chlamydia is an STI that affects lots of young people. It is dangerous because:
a- It means that you are a dirty person
b- It is always really painful particularly during sex
c- You often don’t know you have it and it can leave you infertile
Chlamydia often shows no signs or symptoms and if let untreated can cause pelvic inflammatory disease. Untreated chlamydia may also prevent you from getting pregnant later on. However it is really easy to test for (most doctors and clinics just get you to wee in a jar) and easy to treat (with the right antibiotics), so if you are sexually active get a sexual health test today!
5) What percentage of 12-19 year olds have recently tried ecstasy?
a- 41.5%
b- 10.5%
c- 3.8%
Despite what the media might have you believe, most young people are not trying ecstasy! So don’t be fooled into thinking that it is “normal” to try it!
6) Condoms work best when:
a- They are used with water based lube
b- They have been left to mature in your wallet for 3 years
c- They are re-used
By using water based lube, NOT oil based lube, with condoms, you will decrease the chances of the condom breaking. You also need to check the expiry date of the condom to make sure it is not out of date.
7) What percentage of young people are binge drinking weekly aged 14-19?
a- 71.4%
b- 24.8%
c- 11.8%
There is a lot of confusion about the term "binge drinking" - but basically it means drinking heavily or 'to get drunk' on any single occasion. The media may also try to tell you that ALL young people are drinking heavily but this is simply not true. So don't decide you are going to just to fit in, because chances are you will be 'out of it' and be the one missing out. Remember it is illegal to buy, be sold, or obtain alcohol if you are under 18.
